Week 15: Was Sisyphus a College Student in Disguise?

Yipee. . .you have made it through another semester. . .almost ;-)

I have graded darn near everything. . .There is only the movie, Inspiration (which we'll grade in class tomorrow), and your TaskStream narratives (and of course the attendance and participation, which is almost exclusively based on attendance as everyone participated fully).

Wed:
I will be in the lab as soon as a can. I have a meeting in SD which I will not be able to leave until 3pm at the earliest. Depending on traffic, I should be in the lab around 4:45/5:00 to help anyone with their movies. We will also be briefly discussing TaskStream and sharing out on Inspiration. . .and lastly, we should watch all of your amazing movies (I have confidence in advance).
Note: Don't forget to do the project reflection for the movie assignment!

Please check your grades to ensure everything you have turned in has been graded or fix and resubmit if anything is being returned. . .FINISH ALL MISSING WORK. . .PLEASE.

This week's Question: What are you going to take away from this class? I hope you have learned more than just a few technology tips and tricks.

Thanks to everyone. . .peace!

This has been a great class. I have learned alot and the classes went by so fast. There are a lot of things I learned in this class that I will use in my future classroom. I enjoyed the power point and the classroom newsletter, but everything was great.
Thanks for a great class,

What am I going to take away from this class? The concept that technology in the classroom is just another tool - like a pencil. When students are creating one, maybe two, PowerPoint presentations per year, for example, PowerPoint itself seems to become the objective of the lesson rather than the tool. When a student sits down to write a short story, his focus isn't on the pencil, his focus is on the story. We have to use technology in our classrooms frequently enough for the novelty to wear off. Frequently enough that technology becomes just another tool - like a pencil.

I am going to take away the idea that technology can be used and incorporated into anything we do in our daily lives. That keeping technology on the forefront of learning is not only important but it is fun too. I want to be able to share this with my own students.

I really realized alot about what I didn't know. I've been pretty much a "data" person working on spreadsheets and databases.(although not as bad as the guy in the PC versus Mac commercials) Through this class, I was able to use other programs to enhance lesson plans as well as for student use in support of various learning styles.
I also learned that it is our responsibility to not only keep abreast of technology, but to also train our students in it's use to prepare them for their future. We should always be looking for ways to integrate technology into curriculum.

The most important lesson that I will take away from this class is simple....tools and methods of educating is changing, and I have to change with it in order to be successful. Learning about all the different technology tools available for teachers made me feel like I received my education in the stone age. Students have very different styles of learning, and for each of those styles, there is a new and improved technological tool to enhance that students learning experience. I have to be able to find out what methods will work best with my students and explore the endless opportunities to take advantage of everything that we learned in here.

The thing I am taking away from this class is the understanding of the phrase web-based-learning. Until this class I really couldn’t see the value of using web based databases and service sites for class. But it is a more accessible and efficient way to do computer based learning and learning projects. Why should a teacher reinvent the wheel each assignment or use an onsite software device that is outdated or lame when the web is more accessible and much more current?

I have really enjoyed this class. the tech stuff was great but more inportantly for me it was not to be afraid of new things in technology. The more i learn in this area the more you want to learn . The furure of technology and teaching is exciting now when it used to be a little intimidating.

I loved this class, even though I felt like I was driving blindfolded at times, because it is NOT "remember and regurgitate." This class was, instead, challenging, and I learned a ton. I am very happy that I learned how to create a newsletter in word because I tried to do this on my own before class one time, and I couldn't figure it out. Now, I can do it - along with using new windows on the web. That was another epiphany for me too! Such a timesaver. My favorite projects were also the PPT presentation, the blog, and the social justice movie.

It's all about the movie. They say a picture is worth a thousand words... Then that must mean a movie is worth a billion words. I am looking forward to creating more of these powerful videos in the future.

I have learned a great deal in this class. I like the "movie" concept, and hope to incorporate that into my class in the future. Also, exploring new programs such as InspireData was cool; overall the course reinforces my continued commitment to integration of science and technology!

Thanks for your extra effort and patience!

I am almost positive, I will be having a blog in my future classroom. Pretty much everything I will taking everything that I learned with me. It was all important to how I will want to teach.

What I will take away from this class is confidence. When I started I was not sure I would survive, but I have had so much fun and learned so much. I am not as affraid of computers. I am going to take what I have learned here and build on it. I will use it in my business and in the classroom. It's been a great class.

What will I take with me from his class? The confidence that I can incorporate technology in my class one project at a time. The computer is my friend!!!! I am really looking forward to using technology in all aspects of my classroom ranging from class blogs, communication with parents and peers, researching materials. and using programs such as Kidspiration and many others like it. Thank you Jeff for your support and patience this semester.

Wow, this has been a great class. I wish there was a Part II--I think I've just scratched the surface! : ) I knew very little when I started, and have learned a tremendous amount, even though I feel I need a lot more practice to be comfortable with all I learned. Thanks for a great learning experience...not a moment wasted!

I've learned how useful technology is in teaching. Teachers should intergrate technology into their daily lessons. Computers reallly intimidated me. I think I am a little less afraid of them now and can see the benefits they have to offer. I will definitly walk away being able to duplicate some of the tasks we learned this semester. I hope tht I continue to improve my computer skills and can eventually eliminate all "fear " of them.

I have really enjoyed this class. I learned a lot and I now know that there is a vast amount of information which is readily accessible online. I just need to find the time to sit and read everything and then practice it.I enjoyed the iMovie most. Thank you for being a fun and creative lecturer! Thanks for a great class!

I really learned a lot in this class. Coming from someone who gets anxiety just thinking about technology, I really needed this class and will take a lot away from it. I probably should repeat it so that I REALLY get it (I won't) but I just want to say thanks for helping me break through some of my technology barriers!

Hi Jeff -

I have taken so much away from this class. I was really unaware of all of the available technology and resources out there. I think the most valuable information I received had to do with the existence of collaberative education websites. It is really exciting to participate in these discussions.
Thanks Jeff - you are a great teacher - Have a wonderful and inspiring holiday season! Peace
Kelly
