Weak Three: Still Standing?

If you are still with us, you have overcome some minor computer glitches, chalk in your keyboard, Google password-a-paloosa, and some intense heat. Hopefully, this hasn't deterred anyone from enjoying the work that we're doing in class. The blog should have been created and posted with the intro letter and at least two peer comments, the EdTechProfile pre-assessment should be complete (with perpahs some print-screen issues), and you may or may not have worked on the first journal assignment. I assure each of you that things will get easier!

This week: We are going to learn how to use Microsoft Word to create a classroom newsletter. As part of the process, we are going to draw some self-portraits that we will scan to incorporate into the newsletter! Please ensure that you have signed up for ISTE and TaskStream. We will be working with TaskStream next week and I need everyone to be registered so I can put you into a group for our class. I am also going to post a zero-point assignment that will help you organize your user name and password. I don't plan on going into your accounts, so you don't need to give the password (maybe a hint for yourself). I also hope to introduce the concept of IM for you (alas, something that the under-30 crowd is probably already familiar with ;-)

Journal #2:
Of course, the minute I assigned a free article from the August issue of L&L, I received the September issue in the mail the next day. If you are still waiting on a paycheck, you can use a free article from the new issue, if you have a subscription, feel free to choose any article from the September issue! The "Infusion or Integration" piece by Kimberley Ketterer is short and interesting.

If anyone needs extra help, I will be at the Starbucks on campus by 5 pm . . .we can try to find an empty computer lab to work for an hour or so. If that doesn't work, I would be happy to stay after class to catch anyone up!

This week's Question: What music is currently in circulation in your car, iPod, Mp3 player, or . . .your 8-track? Or, who is your current favorite artist or group?

My wife and I carry a variety of oldies which we don't even listen to. We introduced our children to the movie 'Sound of Music' and they loved it so we bought the sound track. Most of the music we listen to is children's music, vacation bible school music, and Sound of Music.

I don't carry music in the car since getting XM radio. On XM there are too many stations to pick just one favorite. Lately I have been listening to the soul stations more than any others. They play classic and current R&B and soul music.

I have a 6 CD changer in my car, so I always have what I love at my fingertips. The car also has a plug in for an iPod, but this old-school gal doesn't have an iPod--yet! ; )
Currently, I have Eric Clapton, Commodors, Collective Soul, and Tricia Yearwood in the car, along with a couple others I can't think of right now...

I listen to a station on XM radio called 20 on 20. It's basically a new top twenty every three hours, voted on by phone or email. It's primarily artists like Sean Kingston, Justin Timberlake, Rhianna, Daughtry, etc. It's fun to hear the new twenty and see where are favorites are.

I hate to say it, but whatever is on, with the exception of talk radio and rap, just gets played. I love music, but never particular about it. Maybe George Winston?

I like Sheryl Crow, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, and all kinds of 80's music to bring me back to my high school days. I've been listening to some 70's stuff (like KC and the Sunshine Band) and the B-52s. I love U2, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I have a nano ipod (the old white one) which I love, love, love - now I can't live without it.

I listen to a selection of Jazz on the radio in the car. My favorite musician is Bob Marley and we frequently play his music at home along with other reggae and jazz musicians.

I have Tori Amos' new album in the CD player in my car. It's called "American Doll Posse" and it's pretty good, but not her best. I recommend it though. I also have Lily Allen, which is a nice, peppy debut album I play when I'm in a good mood. Her style is loud, irreverent British ska/pop. Very fun. My boyfriend has also been playing on an endless loop "Ash Wednesday," a new album by a guy named Elvis Perkins. Very good, acoustic guitar/coffee house/mellow music. One of the best new artists this year.

I really enjoy 80's music especially when I am stressed out. Right now I have a mix of the 80's in my car along with a few cd's of top 40. I don't have a favorite artist or specific genre of music. I enjoy all types.

I have a ipod player and a 6 disc cd changer in my car, but I rarely listen to my ipod. I enjoy listening to my various cds rather than the radio. My favorite cd right now is Mandy Moore.

My 6 disk cd changer in my car has quite the variety! My kids have in kids bop 12, I have Corrinne Bailey Rae, Dirks Bentley, 3 doors down, the soudtrack to Message in a Bottle, and Christina Aguilera's first cd.

Right now in my car CD player is the CD "Have a Nice Day " by Bon Jovi. I pretty much like old rock-The Stones, Springsteen, Billy Joel, but I also like current pop like Rob Thomas and Fergie. I don't like rap. My kids are always changing my radio station to 93.3, which I don't really care for.

The music I listen to usually comes in weekly trends. This week I seem to be caught up in an oldies mega mix! It's been a while since I broke out the tunes of past sock hops, so I thought that I would play a box set that includes the biggest hits from every year starting in 1956 and continuing on through 1965. I get so caught up in the music that I will start to sing along and eventually notice that fellow commuters will be watching me at stop lights. It's kind of emberassing but fun at the same time.

My favorite music is found in my Sirius Radio, on Channel 60 and 61. As a native Texan, I keep coming back to Country music...
